The devil knows scripture too

The devil knows scripture too

Matthew 4.
Satan tempts Jesus as he is going on a fast and in the wilderness for 40 days and 40 nights. first he sees Jesus is hungry, appealing to his desires. " your hungry, you can turn this stones into bread you know," and Jesus, responds with scripture, Dt 8:3. " man can not live by bread alone-"
Jesus was lead by the spirit in the wilderness to be tempted, He was listening to the spirit and walking by it, obeying His Father. Jesus didn't give in.
" Throw yourself down- the angels will catch you," Saten says. Saten than tests God's power. as they stand on a pinnicle of the holy city, i bet the winds were gusty up there. Than saten tempts Jesus. I mean, Jesus could do it, but again, he was following the will of his Father.
John 6:38 says.. " For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me,"
Jesus again, responds with an old testement verse dt. 6:16
" Dont put your Lord God to the test,"
And, as if two tries arn't enaugh, saten showed him the kingdoms of the earth, and said the most gutsy, thing he could think of to say to God.
" if you bow down, i will give you all of it," which, in truth, the kingdoms were God's to start with. and than, like the saying, 3 tries and your out, God says " Be gone saten!" " There is only one God," dt 6:13
And the devil left him. poof!
which brings me to a chilling point and conclusion. the devil knows scripture too. hes probably well versed in it. we can see it clearly in matthew 4. and we can see it in other scriptures as well. Saten is called the deceiver. He is also called the angel of light in 2 corinthians 11:14
" and no wonder, since saten himself masquerades as an angel of light-"
It especially gives him an in for us to be decieved reading the Bible how we want to read it, making the verses to prove our point. " i believe the Bible says this about this," If we are not careful, we will be decieved by saten with him twisting the scripture. " you know it really doesnt say that about that.."
But, we arn't supposed to be afried. We already have the Holy Spirit if we are believers. We have recieved it as a seal for salvation. We need to rely on the Holy Spirit to show us truth.
Ephesians 1:13
We need to stay humble, and in the word always reading it for what it says and not twisting it for what we'd like it to say.
in closing, 2 Timothy 2:15
Be diligint and present yourself approved to God as a workman who doesn't need to be ashamed, accuretly handling the word of truth.
The devil may know his scripture, but we have the Holy Spirit something he does not have that reveals truth to us.
